Fifty-eight miles from Tampa airport, there is a delightful golf experience awaiting:  Cabot Citrus Farms.

The facility offers four golf courses: Karoo, Roost, Squeeze, and the Wedge.

Played Karoo, Roost, and Wedge with Kevin Norby, ASGCA.  We didn’t get to play the Squeeze, though the staff really likes that course also for a quick 10 holes.  Always enjoy playing golf with Kevin as we debate the golf architecture/strategy on each hole.   Came to realize I have a strong preference for multiple centering bunkers that really define a hole’s options, which are prominently featured, especially on Karoo.

Karoo’s has very dramatic green complexes with superlative greenside shaping.  Our guess was that a different shaper was used on holes 1 – 6 and 12 – 18, which are fabulous, versus the more typical shaping seen on holes 7 – 11.

The customer service experience is delightful.

The range includes Toptracer at each station; the two short-game areas are interesting; many four-plex units are already built; a dining facility (Grange); and a small pro shop.

Canned logoed water, very tasty lemon cookies on the first tee.  The halfway houses are marvelously positioned, in which you have the opportunity to visit multiple times during your round.  They are very well appointed.  The two cantinas by Karoo and the Wedge were busy throughout the day and night, and golfers listened to music, drank, and had dinner.

Prices were $395 for Karoo, $330 for Roost, and $60 for the Wedge.  The rooms were $1,350 per night for 2 people.
