On the Big Island, there are some fabulous public access golf courses: Auberge Collection Mauna Lani (South and North – $325), Marriott Mauna Kea ($345), and Westin Hapuna ($235), which was recently renovated and just reopened.  Note that the limited ball flight range at Hapuna is scheduled to open within 90 days.

Among the many impressive items (superior course conditions, fully stocked Pro Shops, GPS, towels, tees, ball markers, bottled water, free range access, club cleaning, scented ice towels (Hapuna), was the pace of play – all four rounds played were under 4 hours despite the tee sheets being at near capacity.

Jim: you mention that you played in under four hours at each of these clubs despite full tee sheets. What tactics are being employed to create the conditions that allow for under four hour golf at these courses?

Tee Time Intervals are set at 10 minutes. The fairways are wide but should one put their ball among the volcano rocks, it is an immediate drop. There is no time spent looking for lost balls.
